The creation of the Timberwolves marked the return of NBA basketball to the Twin Cities for the first time since the Minneapolis Lakers departed for Los Angeles in 1960. However once Kevin Garnett was brought in the 1995 NBA draft, there was a transformation in their fortunes and for eight years on the trot , the team qualified for the playoffs. Admittedly they lost in the first round for seven years but then the Timberwolves won their first division title in 2004 and made it to the Western Conference Finals. That year Garnett won the title of the NBA Most Valuable Player. Garnett was traded in 2007, in the middle of a prolonged slump by the Wolves ever since they missed the playoffs in 2005 however in 2015 he returned to raise Minnesota hopes.
