About Eagles
At the end of the 60's, two guys came to Los Angeles to make music. One came from Detroit, the other from Texas. Back then, everybody came to Los Angeles to make music. They didn't have a penny, so it pretty quick they shared an apartment and dreams. By the way, their neighbor down stairs was one, Jackson Brown. Three years later, the two, together with two other musicians, recorded a top ten album under the name Eagles.
Glenn Frey and Don Henley, together with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, were part of Linda Ronstadt's backup group, when they decided they want to form their own country and rock band.
They didn't wait long for success, as their first album, "Eagles", shoot up the charts, helped by No. 10 hits, "Take it Easy", "Witchy Woman" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling". Henley's voice from behind the drums, the group's harmonies and the bluegrass guitar riffs were all it took.
Due to extensive touring and pressure within the group, Leadon left in 1975, to be followed two years later by Meisner. They were replaced by Don Felder, later Joe Walsh joined and Timothy B Schmid came for Meisner on bass.
After only four years of playing together, a greatest hits album was released in 1976, which became the best-selling album in the United States during the 20th Century, with sells of almost 40 million albums. The album still stands at the No. 1 for all-time sales. No. 2 is Michael Jackson's "Thriller". No. 3 is another Eagles album, featuring the band' pinnacle, and what would become their signature song.
Other very successful albums followed, until 1977. When one speaks about the Eagles, there is life until 1977, and life after 1977. And the 1977 was the year of "Hotel California". The seven (plus) minutes song, with the two-minute guitar riff at the end, was something unheard off back then. Both song and album took off.
Three years later, constant pressure and endless touring took their tool and the Eagles went their separate ways, only to regroup 14 years later.
The Eagles is one of the all-time best artists as far as album sales are concerned, with over 110 million albums sold in the United States alone.
As a band, the Eagles tours are the best revenue grossing in history. After and from their reunion alone in 1994 and on, the band has played over 570 shows, selling over 9 million tickets and grossing over 1 billion dollars.
The Eagles have won 6 Grammy Awards. In 1998 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
And now, after the death of Glenn Frey in 2016, the Eagles are embarking on a United States, The Long Goodbye Final Tour, featuring Steely Dan.
